How to choose condom size?

Knowing how to choose the size of the condom is important to avoid putting yourself in risky situations, mainly because the function of the condom is to act as a layer of protection against diseases.

Condom size is important for these two reasons: so that it doesn't break and/or come off during sex, but also for male comfort.

How to know condom size? Find out your penis size first

First of all, you have to know approximately the size of your penis. Don't go measuring it in all directions because it's not necessary! But you need to have a general idea of the size (length) and width (diameter).

How to proceed:

Use a measuring tape and start measuring from the base of the penis, at the pubic bone, and unroll it to the end of the limb. Although size is not an influencing factor in the quality of sex, in Portugal, the average size of an erect penis is about 15.8 cm.

After measuring the length, also measure the diameter, wrapping the tape measure around the thickest part of your penis, so you will already have a measure of the size of the condom you have to buy.

How to know condom size? Is there a pattern for everyone?

It would be pretentious for a condom maker to say they are the perfect size for any penis. However, by testing different brands, you are likely to find a condom that fits your penis perfectly.

Overall, there are a few different sizes of condoms: S, M, L and XL. The standard size (M) of a condom is approximately 16 cm long and 52 mm wide.

This size is a standard, which you can be above or below. Above that average, you may prefer an L or XL type condom. L or XL condoms are a little longer and a little wider and generally have diameters ranging from 53 to 69 millimeters, depending on each brand.

If your penis is less than 13 cm erect, and especially if it has a smaller diameter, go for a small size condom, which is usually 47 mm or 49 mm in diameter.

Remember, it's no use getting stuck on nominal size measurements, as standard condoms are quite stretchy. If the standard size condom is not suitable because it is too wide or too tight, it is best to try different sizes.

Why all these precautions?

If the size of the condom isn't right, you're taking a lot of risks. First, if your condom is too small or too big, you run the risk of it tearing, bursting, or coming off your penis. This exposes you to sexually transmitted diseases. And in the case of straight couples, there is still the risk of an unintended pregnancy.

As for the relationship with pleasure, it is important that the condom has the right size. Using a thinner condom won't make you feel more happy if it's too small or too big. The important thing is that it adapts as best as possible to the shape of your penis.

The condom does not need to extend to the base of the penis, even if this is recommended, but it should be snugly covering the largest area of the penis. Thus, size M may be suitable for a penis that is slightly above average in length but not wide enough for size L.
